Summer Moment

First, I am in the darkening sky, amongst the bright, singing stars. A great cry comes from my beak, but the cry is lost in the eternal wind. The wind that lets me glide high up in the sky, feathers ruffling gently. I look down at the world spread out before me: calm, quiet, a little bit sleepy. Shades of blue and green start to blend together, and then blend with the tan colors, and all the while, the warm golden color is present. Oh, the warm gold! Here for so short a time and yet time stops when it is here. Nostalgia washes over me as I begin my swift decent.
Second, I am down below, where the earth is alive with all manner of life. A gentle breeze is present here, warm and salty. It brushes my hair away from my eyes as I turn to face the dying sphere of light. It warms me still, yet an undercurrent of cold sneaks upon me. I wonder what the dying sphere thinks about, as it slowly slips away from view. Does it cry? Are those its’ tears that do flow and blend with the night sky? Or…as the colors change from gold to red…is that its’ blood? Has something vile and cruel killed the sphere, and even now, it lies dead? Now it’s so cold, as I rub some warmth into my dark arms.
Third, I trot on the grainy strip of brown particles. The blue slowly crashes into the brown, but then quickly flees at contact. I gaze at the blue, wondering why it attacks the brown. My Companion wishes to return home, for the light is now dark, but oh, how I wish to stay out! The cool night air is as sweet as new hay, and I wish to linger here some more. Please, let me run wild and free into the rushing, murderous blue! Let me hear the song of the night, the dancing stars and the dying light!
But alas…night, and the cold, have come….I sigh with the breeze….and it’s time to return to the real world.
